A Divine Beginning

The vision for CLASFON was birthed in 1979 at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos Campus. During this period, a group of Christian law students, deeply committed to their faith, discerned the need for an organization that would provide spiritual support and foster ethical and moral excellence within the legal profession. These early pioneers believed the legal arena was not only a profession but also a mission field to impact lives and society for Christ.

Establishing a Foundation

CLASFON was officially inaugurated in 1981 when a young Christian lawyer, George Ogunyomi, invited a group of Christian lawyers to a meeting in Kaduna. Eleven individuals attended this historic gathering, marking the first-ever meeting of Christian lawyers beyond the law school setting. This humble beginning laid the foundation for what would become a vibrant faith-based fellowship, committed to integrating faith and legal practice.

The group appointed George Ogunyomi as its pioneer secretary. Under his leadership and the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the fellowship grew, with a clear mission to equip Christian lawyers and law students to serve God and humanity through the legal profession.

Early Growth

In its formative years, CLASFON attracted a growing number of Christian lawyers and law graduates, eager to make a difference in their profession and their nation. Recognizing the need to engage future legal professionals, the fellowship began to establish a presence in law faculties across Nigeria, culminating in the creation of the Christian Law Students Fellowship of Nigeria, an associate arm of CLASFON.

Over the years, CLASFON expanded its reach and established chapters across Nigeria, fostering a network of Christian legal professionals and students united by shared values and a common mission. Its activities included regular fellowships, conferences, and outreach programs aimed at promoting justice, ethical legal practice, and the gospel of Jesus Christ.

An Organization with a Purpose

To formalize its operations and extend its impact, CLASFON was registered under Part C of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Nigeria. This registration solidified its status as a faith-based non-governmental organization dedicated to serving Christian lawyers, law students, and law graduates across the nation.

Today, CLASFON stands as a vibrant and impactful fellowship, inspiring Christian lawyers and students to live out their faith in their legal careers. Through its national and local chapters, it continues to engage in nation-building, legal advocacy, and spiritual mentoring, embodying its commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the principles of justice and fairness.
