My journey to law school has been a testament to the power of faith and divine guidance. After a challenging battle with the dean of my faculty to secure a spot for this session, I was finally shortlisted. When the law school postings were released, I was assigned to the Yola campus.

Initially, I was excited, but my enthusiasm waned when I shared the news with my mom. She was deeply concerned about the safety issues in northern Nigeria, known for banditry and kidnappings. Her fear was palpable, and she expressed that she would never forgive herself if I went to Yola.

Interestingly, I had often joked about being posted to Yola, which made me realize the power of the tongue. Despite our best efforts to change the posting, nothing worked. As lectures commenced, seeing my friends share their law school experiences while I had not even resumed caused me severe anxiety and panic attacks.

One Sunday, I found solace in church. The scripture that day was the story of Jonah and the big fish, a tale of obedience and divine direction. The sermon further reinforced my conviction that God had a plan for me. It was about a man who had to undertake a dreaded journey. He prayed for God’s presence, and during the journey, he saw God’s footprints beside him. However, upon reaching a particularly feared bridge, he noticed only one set of footprints and felt abandoned. After successfully crossing, God revealed that He had carried him, hence the single set of footprints.

Moved to tears, I felt a deep sense of peace and understanding. My mom, seeing my tears, nodded in silent agreement. The next day, I embarked on my journey to Yola. Though my testimony is still unfolding, I firmly believe that God will complete my story positively. I am Ngwu Kosisochukwu Ebube, and determined to excel and achieve a first-class degree, I am sharing my journey for posterity’s sake.
